Putting the Finishing Touches on the Giving Tree
One of our little ones noticed that the Giving Tree in the Commons was missing a star.
The class painted a cardboard box gold and cut it into the shape of a star. They also glued shiny gold paper and fabric on it so it would shine. The Giving Tree was complete as we placed the star at the top.
The Toddler Class also made paper chains to hang on the tree.

Making our Holiday Gifts and Decorations
The children were busy in December cutting, gluing, painting and beading, in preparation of the holidays. The Toddler Class was glimmering with pride as they put the final touches on their gifts and cards and wrapped them for their families.
Making Our Winter Votive Candles Holders
There were many steps to making the holiday gifts. The children first cut doilies into different size pieces. They covered their jars with glue and placed the cut pieces on top of the glue and then painted more glue over them. After the glued pieces dried, the children painted the jars with silver glitter paint.

Animal Homes
As the trees lost their leaves, the children noticed nests in the trees. We went for walks on campus looking for more animal homes, in the trees and on the ground. They found man-made bird houses, as well as homes made by animals.
We looked in books at different types of animal homes and the materials used to build them. Eddie brought into school a wasp nest. We learned from Mr. A that wasps make their nests with their spit and wood!
The children began to build homes for their stuffed animals at school with the building blocks.

Under the evergreens was a bed of pine needles for animals to sleep...and we found holes made by little creatures.

Toddler Architects and their Home Designs
Some of the children brought stuffed animals to school from home. On cold mornings in the Commons, the children would build homes for their animals. These are just some of the many elaborate homes that the Toddler Class built.

Turning our Dramatic Play Area into a Hospital Zoo
The children were spending a lot of time playing with the stuffed animals, not only building them homes in the Commons but also tending to their needs: feeding them, attending to their injuries, and tucking them into bed. We made a class decision to turn the classroom Dramatic Play area into a home for animals. However, since the children were "doctoring" their animals, they decided to call it the "Hospital Zoo." At the Hospital Zoo, there is imaginative play and role playing of doctors, patients, and parents.

Spanish with Señora Victoria
Señora Victoria taught the children colors, sizes and shapes as well as a few holiday words.
She used different techniques and hands-on activities to teach them the colors.
