We have completed our second week in PE. With the exception of 1 rainy afternoon we have been outside mostly on the sports court, a contained area with clear lines and boundaries. The younger children are now comfortable with me (and the whistle!) and have adjusted to the routine. In fact the Preschool can make a straight line faster than any other class! They are beginning to understand the organization necessary for a successful relay race and they are starting to enjoy working with balls. The older children have completed their classroom covenants and are engaged in more active games such as bombardment, capture the flag and pirate ball. The grade 4/5 warm up of a figure 8 was seamless! In summary, we are off and running with many warm fall days of activity ahead of us!
There is always a "buzz" in the hallways on the first day of school. The teachers are just as excited as the children! I am looking forward to welcoming back returning students and becoming acquainted with new faces. For the Preschool, PE is a new experience and so we keep it simple and light. For the older children the energy and excitement of anticipation is evident in the hallway even before we go outside. With summer's leisure behind us, we need to get started on our odyssey - may we celebrate this mutual endeavor together!
