Dear PJS Families,
I am looking forward to greeting PJS students, faculty, and parents bright and early tomorrow morning! Hopefully, by the time you read this email, your child(ren) are gearing up for a good night's sleep before coming back to school in 2017. It takes a bit of effort all around to get everyone back into the routine. Rest assured, with some time, patience, structure and persistence it will happen soon enough.
STUDENT ARRIVAL: Due to our increased student body, we are going to try a slightly new arrival system for the remainder of winter and then re-assess when spring arrives. Tomorrow morning families in K-5 should continue to use the car line and remain in their cars while PJS faculty assists your child(ren) into the school. ECP children must be escorted by an adult into the school. When students in K-5 arrive at 8am they will immediately proceed to their classrooms. There will be no community-wide gathering in the Commons after 8am. All grade level teacher K-5 will be in their classroom/ hallway cubby area to receive their students beginning at 8am. Courtney White will dismiss K-5 early birds to their classrooms at 8am. The ECP will gather in the Commons. A child from the ECP will ring the bell in the Commons at 8:10am, signaling to the entire school community that school has officially begun. When the bell rings at 8:10am, students should be settled into their classrooms. Any students in K-5 arriving after 8:10am is considered TARDY. Please make every effort to make sure your child(ren) arrive at school on time and ready to learn. Our teachers rely on punctual student arrival so that learning can be optimized, positive habits can be instilled and the class community can begin their important work from the start of the school day. When a child is late, it is disruptive not only for the individual child's progress, but also for that of the class community and the teacher's curricular objectives. Please refer to the PJS Parent Handbook for details regarding our policies for lateness and absences. I expect this new arrival system will run smoothly and efficiently, along with some teamwork, patience and persistence.
STUDENT INSPIRED SERVICE PROJECT: Dylan & Aliya Meyers will be introducing and soliciting support for a charity that they started called "Kids Helping Kids." Dylan & Aliya will visit classrooms during morning meeting tomorrow and introduce this service project to PJS students. On MLK Day, the girls are hosting a Birthday Basket Stuffing for KIDS HELPING KIDS – further details will be provided this week. Your child(ren) in K-5 will also come home to share updates with you.
NEW MEMBERS IN OUR COMMUNITY:
Our school community is growing with vibrancy. I am very proud to share that we will be welcoming several new students and student teachers beginning this month. Lynn Jarvis will provide more detailed in her Friday blog post. In addition, individual grade level teachers will inform you in their blog posts.
UPCOMING EVENTS: This Thursday this is pizza lunch. Friday is Friday Focus early dismissal. Looking ahead, Curriculum Night is a few weeks away. I hope that you will join me on my birthday in February for the PJS Soiree! Please check the PJS family calendar for many more events this winter.
See you soon!
