Our fourth grade studio class has been studying ancient civilizations and different artistic representations used by them. In art we have been learning about the ancient artifacts found in the Americas. We looked at the art of the Mayans, Aztecs, Olmecs, Incas and the influence of nature in their designs. Students sketched sculptures, ornaments and designs based on some of those cultures and created their own ceramics. We explore the concept of zoomorphic and anthropomorphic to create representations with the forms of humans and animals.
