Our preschoolers were delighted to keep the active and hungry Monarch larva in our classroom. We placed it in a comfy tent and of course, supplied it's favorite food, Milk Weed.

We noticed a pattern of white, yellow, and black transverse bands.
We illustrated what we noticed and wondered what color will it be when it grows into a butterfly?

Preschoolers illustrated their observations in their journals. They noticed the colors of the Monarch. They explored the pattern of colors on it's soft body. They shared their observations and also listened to new perspectives.
We went on some nature walks and discovered some interesting elements about our environment.
We collected some interesting treasures. These materials are like magnets for little learner hands. They draw us in, make us want to explore, try new things, create, and wonder. We can use these items in our art creations. This is how we express ourselves. According to the Reggio approach, "Children express themselves using 100 Languages". |
