Good afternoon!
We want to start by saying a BIG thank you to the students and parents who participated in today's Movie Day Fundraiser. It was a great event! We especially would like to thank Bert, Amy, and Alicia for coordinating! We are so grateful for our PJS community!

Last week, students spent time learning about graphs, historical migrations in the United States, and practicing for their conferences.
To prepare for their conferences, students identified strengths and goals, practiced in partnerships, and worked with Mrs. Korsen and Miss Oberjuerge to organize and curate their work. Additionally, students practiced their speaking, organizational, and reflective skills. As one student noted, "It is important that I think about this whole year. I have learned a lot. I know a lot more now than before." Another student added, "I like that I get to see my work from the whole year! I can see how much I have learned."
In math, students explored graphs and data, probability, fractions, and reviewed for this coming week's testing. An area of increasing strength for OK Corral students has been in their "number talk" skills. We have seen many students come to the math board to explain their own reasoning behind math problems. This method enables students to strengthen their own knowledge, as well as contribute to the overall understanding of the entire class. It also verifies multiple ways of solving problems. For example, one student might multiply using arrays, another might utilize repeated addition, and yet another might employ the "friendly" numbers strategy. We encourage these "math talks" at home too! They can be a great way to develop number sense and math confidence.
On Wednesday, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 attended the Princeton Symphony Bravo Concert. This event is held annually at Richardson Auditorium on the Princeton campus. Grade 3 enjoyed listening to music from Harry Potter, Lemony Snicket, and popular patriotic songs.
Students have also been enjoying the lovely May weather! As the weather improves, please send your child to school with water, outdoor shoes, and sunscreen. We will be spending more time outside for lessons and recess in the coming weeks (as weather permits).
Lastly, this week will be testing for students. We encourage students to get plenty of rest, eat balanced breakfasts, and bring nutrient rich snacks.
We ask as well that all students are here by the start of school at 8:10. This will enable students to have time to settle in before testing begins. There will be no math or word study homework.
Have a wonderful evening! Please contact us with any questions!
Kindly,
Britt and Anne
