We hope you are enjoying this last weekend in May! It is hard to believe that the school year is already coming to a close. In the coming weeks, students will wrap up their studies as second and third grade students and begin to prepare for the next school year. We look forward to many of our upcoming events, especially Family Talent Show this Friday and All School Graduation on the 10th! We hope to see you all there!
This past week, students explored their current IB unit, studied geometry, and looked into persuasive writing.
With our IB unit, students have been considering the roll "pull" and "push" factors have in influencing individuals to migrate to other countries. One such area of study has been the California Gold Rush. Students have explored how the lure of gold, land, and opportunity pulled people to California and Oregon during 1849. As part of this, students have looked at persuasive writing, letters, and posters from this time that convinced people to make the treacherous trip. Students are now applying this growing knowledge to an in class project in which they pick an area and create persuasive writing to pull people to a chosen location. Through this unit, students are learning so much about the history of our nation and the many paths we have taken to get here. We look forward to sharing their ideas with you all soon!
One last aspect of the week we would like to highlight was our event on Wednesday with the Cherry Tree school. Each year preschool students visit PJS for a morning brunch and outdoor activities. This year, our students in Glitter Lemonade Club volunteered their time to host the brunch. They did a fantastic job and the event went very well!
Kindly,
Britt and Anne
