Dear Families,
One week of learning is under way! We hope your child is finding the new year exciting and is full of joy and wonderment.
This past week the children in Grades 2/3 came together to come up with an Essential Agreement. There was much discussion as they decided how they what rules were necessary to create a safe, joyful, and smooth learning environment. After a democratic vote, Grade 2/3 it was agreed that Essential Agreement is as follows:
Raise your hand when you want to speak.
Listen to each other.
Be a friend to each other and do the right thing.
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Each child and teacher signed their name as a testament that they agree to follow the Essential Agreement for Grades 2/3. We encourage you to speak with your child about the Essential Agreement and ask what it means to them.

This week we also discussed our Hopes and Dreams for the coming year...
"My hope and dream is to make new friends."
~Grace
"My hope and dream is to learn what a trillion-squared is!"
~Brodie
"I want to be a better artist!"
~Jack
"I want to take more risks."
~Oscar
"I want to be better reader and writer."
~Vanessa
"I want to become a mathematician!"
~Dhruv
"I want to have fun while learning."
~Sebastian
After much discussion, the children of Grades 2/3 wrote their thoughts on a star that will hang from the ceiling in front of the classroom for the remainder of the school year. We encourage you to take a moment and find your child's star...
Perhaps the highlight of the week was releasing the monarch butterflies into the sky with our beloved Learning through Landscapes teacher, Mrs. Zeppenfeld. The children eagerly listened to the story of Flutter, the butterfly and her life on the grounds of PJS. If you would like to read more about Flutter, kindly visit the Learning Through Landscapes blog at the scroll down menu above.
